Our best Christmas movies |
Christmas time is full of
miracles - beginning with birth of Jesus, via family meetings or&and
reconciliations. That is why our favorite film this year is Joyeux Noël (Merry
Christmas). Maria’s grandfathers told her some similar stories about this
terrible World War I. Miracles do happen :).

about the Christmas truce during WWI, depicted through the eyes of French,
Scottish and German soldiers. With Diane Kruger, Benno Fuermann, Guillaume
Canet, Gary Lewis, Dany Boon, Daniel Bruehl. This film is based on a true
story. It has been nominated for the best foreign language Academy
Award in 2006.

Christmas Carol (1951) – one of the best film adaptation of Charles Dickens' Christmas story. When this British film was first released it
was called Scrooge and it got its second title – A Christmas Carol – in the United States. It is Christmas Eve, 1843 and Ebenezer
Scrooge is seen leaving the London Exchange on the way to his counting house.

ewige Lied (Silent Night) by Xavier Bogner (1997) about one of the best known
Chrismas carols – “Silent night, holy night”. „Stille Nacht, heilige
Nacht” has been performed first on Christmas
Eve 1818 in
Oberndorf, close to Salzburg,
Austria. This
famous song has been translated into 300 different languages and dialects.
Tobias Moretti plays Joseph Mohr who wrote the poem and Heio von Stetten -
Franz Gruber who added music.

The Holiday – romantic comedy (2006) directed and written by
Nancy Meyers. It shows the adventures of two women on the opposite sides of
globe (London and Los Angeles) who swap their houses for
Christmas. The change of address change their lives. With Kate Winslet, Cameron
Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black.

Love Actually – nice romantic comedy (2003)
showing ten love stories of several couples in London during the holiday season. Directed
and written by Richard Curtis, with Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Loam Neeson,
Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Gregor Fisher, Rory
MacGregor etc. And in episodes we can see Claudia Schiffer and Rowan Atkinson.
Worth mentioning is also music, performed by Dido, Nora Jones, Joni Mitchell,
Otis Redding, Eva Cassidy, Texas, Sugababes and The Calling.
