aka Sissi, is a German historical drama television series. It is based on the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria and it is worth seeing, "When rebellious Elisabeth falls for Emperor Franz and becomes his unlikely bride, she enters a word of tension and intrigue at the Viennese court", writes Netflix. Travelling through Switzerland we have visited the place where Sissi spent her last night and was murdered. Geneva in September 1898 witnessed a brutal atack on the Austrian Empress, better known as Sissi. (M&P) On the YT film above there is a Sissi statue in Geneva, near the Hotel Beau-Rivage where she died. More in the Youtube Playlist
I went to see this controversial German Oscar nomination for 2026. There is no story to be told. The film is rather like a poem, consisting of allusions. The film presents the life of sisters in four periodes of the last hundred years. The camera follows mostly one sister and the spectators see the world through her eyes. There is a tense horror mood created by the director and reinforced by a very suggestive soundtrack. The sisters and the mothers live in a patriarchical society and try to find their ways. Disturbingly often it leads to death. In my opinion the film would gain if it were not so long. Almost three hours, without a story, was a challenge. Some people left earlier but I sat it through… And still I would recommend to watch it. Paul
