Bad weddings 2

Bad weddings 2 - read reviews before you watch it An elderly couple living in a French province (beautiful landscapes) has four daughters and four sons in law. Every young man has different roots, culture, faith, skin colour etc. Even they are so different, one day they make the same decision - to quite France and start a new, better life elsewhere. Madame and Monsieur Verneuil do their best to keep the big family close. Do their best? Well, that is the question.  We decided quite spontaneously to watch this film which is a sequel of a movie released 2014 (Bad wedding). We were in a mood for a comedy. But if we had read some reviews before, we would have decided otherwise. “Slapstick combined with uninspired flat jokes” and similar commentaries would have changed our mind or at least decrease our hope. And so we decided to watch this movie with some expectations. And we came out disappointed. C’est la vie.   Maria&Paul Summa summarum: 4/10 MORE INFO

Supercondriaque

Supercondriaque - a super French comedy A French 39-years old single, not the most handsome one, believes to have all possible diseases. How can a hypochondriac fall in love? And how can someone fall in love with him? Not an easy task but Dany Boon & Co. manage to make it truth. At least on the screen.  Romain’s doctor and only friend, Dr. Dimitri Zvenka, tries to cure him by dating. Not a classical procedure but it seems to work. Mostly due to Anton Miroslav, the leader of a rebel in Tscherkistan. Tscherkistan does not exist, Anton Miroslav has a different identity and Romain can finally eat with a rat.  There are not too many surprises and that is probably why for some viewers it appears to be “quite a lame romantic comedy”, but there are moments of laugh. Yet, this movie is not to compare with Welcome to the Stiks, but still it gains a lot due to the French comics Dany Boon and Kad Merad. Both actors, by the way, are born to Algerian fathers and French mothers. W

Happy as Lazzaro

Happy as Lazzaro Alice Rohrwacher, an Italian director and screenwriter, took us into a fairy world tale. A fairy tale for adults, in which she shows a kindly boy named Lazzaro and his special approach to life. The film is full of metaphors and memorable scenes. Our favorite scene was the organ concert and mysterious music. The film is not only about the specific friendship of the good-natured peasant Lazzaro and the trifler marquis Tancredi. Also important is the village of Inviolata, stopped in time, and its inhabitants - portrayed with humor. The tobacco plantation of the Alfonsina awning and the face of the modern city were less funny though. We enjoyed the film, it took us for almost two hours into a different (?) world. However, we did not like the end. We knew from the reviews that it would surprise us, and it did. The movie is an Italian-Swiss coproduction in which one of the important roles is played by the director’s sister, Alba Rohrwacher.

Welcome to the Sticks

Fot. Imdb.com The best laughter therapy ever. Philippe, a French public servant from the warm Southern part of France, is banished to the far and cold Northern one. His biggest dream to come back as soon as possible disappears however with every minute. The movie, playing with local prejudices and using linguistic gags, is not something very exceptional. It makes you however laugh. And - to our minds - it is exceptional enough. The French word Ch’ti is slang for people from Northern France. Dany Boon knows this region very well. He was born there 1966 as Daniel Faid Hamidou, son of an Algerian father and a French mother.  There is one mystery connected to this movie - its results. Its budget was 14.4 million $ and the box office - 245.1 million $. It was the biggest one in French history. No wonder.  Maria&Paul Summa summarum: 9,5/10 MORE INFO: Director - Dany Boon Writer - Dany Boon, Alexandre Charlot Music - Philippe Rombi Origina
